EVERY TEENAGER CAN BENEFIT FROM THERAPY

Teenage can be a confusing time for anyone. Besides undergoing a range of physical and physiological changes, you also find yourself in a very confusing mental space. Issues like peer pressure, academic stress, relationship issues, sexual identity problems, family situation, parents going through marital issues etc. can all be massive stress in the life of a teenager. Very often, teens suffering from such problems take recourse to so-called solutions like alcohol and drugs, which in turn end up opening a pandora’s box of issues. The problem is further compounded by the fact that you might feel you cannot talk to your parents or family members about it while discussing such issues with your friends might make you seem weak or even “uncool”.

In such a scenario, visiting a therapist, specially a therapist for teens could prove to be of massive help. Sadly, even in this day and age, there is a certain amount of taboo attached the idea of seeking the help of a therapist. Just because you require professional help doesn’t mean there you are “going crazy”. It is as simple as visiting a dentist when you have a toothache.

The key lies in choosing the right therapist. Ideally, he or she should be somebody you are comfortable talking to and somebody you feel you can trust. Don’t be afraid to switch therapists if you feel things aren’t working out with one of them. What is important to remember however is that a therapist will not solve your problems for you. But he or she will guide you and help you figure out solutions for yourself. That’s why it’s important to work with your therapist and help them give you the best possible care and attention.
