Signs Your Family Needs Counseling

The Indian culture gives a lot of importance to family and togetherness. Most of us have large families and are used to maintaining cordial relationships with everyone. However, it is not always sunshine and rainbows. Family dynamics are difficult to understand and because most families are tight-knit families, they are sensitive too. The structure of the family often is placed in a way where elders are placed on the top of the pyramid. Children are scared and may not speak up. Bottling up issues causes problems in the lives of individuals involved first, and then for the entire family. Therefore, you can consult a family therapist in Mumbai

Even if you’re a modern-day family with 3 - 4 members in a family, the societal structure isn’t very conversation friendly. We are used to listening and obeying without any questions. As we grow up, we demand answers and your family should be able to give you those without hurting emotions. If you are noticing that you are is not getting along very well and dinner time conversations are heated, it is a sign. Communication is surely important, but if there’s anger and violence involved then that is not a very good sign. You can start with looking at a personal level and identify what are the behavioral patterns and triggers. If you and your partner are facing personal problems, then it affects your family too. You can consider individual therapy or couple therapy in Mumbai if the problem lies at your end. However, if the problem arises when the entire family is together and matters become emotionally charged, you will know that you need family therapy. The counselor counsels the entire family together and encourages healthy communication that can resolve issues.

You may find it challenging to get your entire family and convince them for therapy, but if that is the need of the hour then you can always start with explaining the benefits and go for trial sessions.
