SIGNS YOUR TEENAGER MIGHT NEED THERAPY

Child psychologists believe that a large majority of children experience severe emotional stress as they enter their teens years. Interestingly, this is also the time kids tend to alienate themselves from their parents leaving them with almost no support system of any kind. Traversing the teenage years can be stressful for any kid even though some do manage to cope better than others. In any case, here are some signs you need to watch out for in your teen.

As any therapist for teens will tell you, teenage is supposed to be a time when children get properly exposed to society. They need to start forming their own social circles at this point and learn what it means to live as a group. If your child seems to suffer from social isolation or even social anxiety, there is a clear behavioral problem at play here. On the other hand, peer pressure can be a major factor as well. Kids at this age are fascinated by their peers and constantly seek you emulate their friends. While you do need to give them some amount of freedom at this point, you also need to watch out for signs of problems like alcohol and drug addiction. Moving on to your own relationship with your child, some amount of friction is to be expected and neither can you hope that your teen will confide in you every possible detail of their life. However, if you ever notice your relationship suddenly growing extremely distant and maybe even distasteful, it's a clear sign that something could be wrong.

Ideally, a therapist for teens is supposed to act as a friend and guide to teenagers. They won't confide all the details of their therapy sessions with you but will let you know in case any red flags turn up. On the other hand, you can rest easy knowing that a trained professional is guiding and helping your child at every step.
