It Might Be Time To Get A Child Psychologist

Why on earth does a child need a child psychologist?
The answer could surprise you. Children develop their core personality in their formative years based on their inherent character and personality traits. At the same time they are also influenced and mimic behavior of those around them. Often children will surprise you and delight you with their behavior. Often you wonder where they “developed that temper” or “got that attitude” from. Sometimes you may even wonder what is happening and why your once lively child is no longer interested in the activities and being around the people he or she once enjoyed.

Depression is a scary word and
depression therapy seems very harsh. What could possibly be troubling a child so much? However, it important to understand that, if an incident of bullying or pain has occurred to a child and you are unaware of it, this is their first interaction with society. They do not know what is right or wrong. They do not understand why they feel the way they do and every child will express their emotions differently. It is for you as a parent to understand the subtle differences in behavior and be able to monitor how long it has been going on for. Sometimes children tend to get into a mood. Sometimes it could be a lot worse than just a mood.

As children cannot freely express these problems or express what they are going through, the
child psychologist acts as a mediator. The child psychologist has studied the art of communicating with children in a language children know best worldwide, their imagination. Through theater or drama, role playing, drawing and painting, writing down or speaking out word associations and more, the child psychologist can assess what the problem is or where the feelings trigger from. It helps the therapist, the parent and to an extent the teachers understand what is going on with the child. Through therapy, you are able to address issues you never knew existed. So it is very important to understand why therapy is required. Just as you would rush to a doctor in the middle of the night if your child had a burning fever; sometimes the fever is on the inside of the mind and needs a different kind of doctor to address it.

There may be very few reputed child psychologist in Mumbai.  In most cases you have schools that have a guidance counselor or a few counselors that are available throughout school ours especially during the lunch breaks and post school hours. However with just one or two counselors and a school of 300 children, it could be difficult to assess issues. An external counselor with field experience in school that has gone on to do his or her independent practice would be of better help to you.

The child, the parent, the child psychologist in Mumbai that you identify, the teacher as well as the school counselor can all work together and in tandem to help the child overcome their issues and obstacles of the mind. This is all done through effective depression therapy and anxiety relaxing sessions.
