Before we talk
about the kinds of therapy and what is best suited for a individual, let’s
understand what therapy all is about. In a nutshell, therapy is the treatment
of a psychological disorder by a trained counseling
psychologist in a controlled environment. When you break your leg, and
after spending a few months in a cast, you go for physical therapy, right?
Similarly, after facing a trauma that has taken a toll on you, to go for
therapy to become better equipped in dealing with the trauma or even getting
rid of it altogether. While therapy has lived on the fringes of mainstream
society for many years, the recent uptick in more and more people talking about
it has certainly given it a boost. The idea of therapy is a lot less alien to
people than it used to be about fifteen to twenty years ago. So, what kind of
therapy can you go for today? Let’s find out!
There are multiple
techniques of therapy that most therapists turn to depending on the person, the
reason, the budget and multiple other factors. Group counseling,
in recent years has picked up in terms of popularity mostly due to pop culture.
It is a lot cheaper than individual therapy and contrary to popular belief,
just as effective too. However, like mentioned above, it really depends on the
person and the reason. Sometimes, you feel like you are a force fit in a group
and then there is no progress from there. You need to comfortable with not just
your therapists, but also ten to fifteen other people in the room. Hence, it
really cannot be said what kind of therapy works for someone. At the end of the
day, it is your call, what you’re comfortable with and how much you’re willing
to shell out.
