COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGIST CAN HELP YOU COMBAT DEPRESSION WITHOUT MEDICATION

There is a very common misconception about counseling psychologists and mental health therapists. Most people just feel that mental health therapists do nothing but prescribe medicines and rely on drugs to induce happiness and euphoria. Nothing could be farther from the truth. A counseling psychologist will first try to help you out through counseling therapy and will rely on drugs only as a last resort measure. On the other hand, if you want, you can specifically tell your therapist that you would like to stay away from medicinal intervention.

In that case, your counseling psychologist will tell you to opt for proper depression therapy. What this means is that they will schedule a series of sessions with you, focused on helping you deal better with your issues. The initial few sessions will involve understanding your problem and taking notes. The therapist will then study their notes and take some time to figure out what could be at the root of your depression. Once they have a clear understanding of your problem, they will start initiating behavioral therapy sessions. This will involve helping you slowly and gradually changing your habits and attitude towards depression itself. It is isn’t an easy or simple process and could take months of work. But you need to bear in mind that it is by no means a never-ending process. In fact, the therapist will do their best to ensure that you are able to function on your own as soon as possible.

Still not sure how therapy can help you battle depression? Get in touch with a mental health professional and let them convince you. There is no harm in having an initial conversation to get a better perspective on the problem which will only help you in the long run.
